LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Republican presidential hopeful Marco Rubio is campaigning in Arkansas this weekend, the day after the South Carolina primary.

The U.S. senator from Florida said Thursday that he'll hold a campaign rally at the Statehouse Convention Center in downtown Little Rock on Sunday afternoon. It's his first public event in Arkansas since launching his presidential bid.

Rubio has picked up endorsements from some of the state's top Republicans ahead of its March 1 primary, including Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin and U.S. Reps. Rick Crawford and Steve Womack.

Other GOP hopefuls, including billionaire developer Donald Trump and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, have campaigned in Arkansas since lawmakers moved up its primary from May. The move was part of an effort to create a regional nominating contest among southeastern states.
