POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – A group of burglars got away with some dangerous loot - high-powered weapons - from a Pompano Beach gun store.

And the store wasn't the only one hit - three other businesses including another gun shop in the same city were targets.

Friday morning, investigators laid out a table filled with high-powered weapons, pistols, and bullets after BSO detectives said they found the firearms when they stopped an SUV. Deputies said they pulled a lot of guns and ammo from inside.

"Someone broke into the building about 2:45 in the morning. They broke three glass windows, they threw spark plugs through the windows and then they broke in and tore through everything," said Gary Lambert with National Armory Guns & Range.

Lambert owns the Pompano Beach business. He said when crooks got into his place, they were looking for guns and money.

"They broke in and just tore thru everything. They took cash out of the cash drawers that is inside the office and they took a couple personal guns that belong to one of the employees here," said Lambert.

Lambert said the heist could have been a lot worse but because of safeguards in place, the crooks were not able to get into the actual store, just the office. Had they got in, they would have been able to make a much bigger haul.

"They didn't get into the store where the regular guns are kept, where the automatic weapons are kept, they couldn't get access to it," said Lambert.

Deputies ended up at an apartment in the area of NW 27th Avenue and 1st Court along with the Burglary Apprehension Task Force.

"One of them had a big ole machine gun or whatever," said neighbor Monique Spellman. "There was a whole bunch of them out here, a whole bunch of them."

It is in that neighborhood where they arrested two men.

Broward detectives found a gun inside a box inside the home where the two men were taken out of. They also grabbed wads of cash and found numerous cash drawers in the back of the home.

The pair is also suspected of breaking into another gun store.

Since the arrests, deputies spent hours at two apartments. Aside from guns and cash, they also left with a TV and what appears to be gaming equipment.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
