MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Beach police are on the scene of a death investigation at a luxurious South Beach apartment complex.

Miami Beach police said they received a 911 call at around 7 p.m. from security personnel at the Flamingo Towers, located at 1500 Bay Road.

"The children are the ones that alerted security personnel that their mother was assaulted in their apartment," said Miami Beach officer Ernie Rodriquez.

Not only was the mother assaulted, she was dead.

The Miami Beach Special Victims Unit escorted two young children out.

Police do have several leads but are not sharing who the suspect is or how the mother of two died.

One theory is that this is a domestic related homicide.

"That is a possibility on one of the factors that we are in investigating as part of this investigation," said Rodriguez.

On August 14th, 2015, a man was shot and killed in the Flamingo Towers skyway.

Monday night's death marks the second homicide in six months.

As they did in August, residents said there seems to be trouble – a lot of trouble in a complex where rents go for $2,500 a month and often multiple roommates crowd into one unit.

"Several residential towers, so you have a lot of people confined to one small area. So automatically you are going to have an increase in calls for services," said Rodriguez. "I do not know if there is a problem with the building but that is the reason you see officers here."

If you have any information that can help police, you are urged to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-8477.
