Police: Tourist Attacked On Sandy Shores Of South Beach

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Miami Beach Police are investigating the attack of a tourist on the sands of South Beach.

According to Miami Beach Police, the victim and her boyfriend got into an argument early Wednesday morning because she wanted to walk the beach and he wanted to return to their hotel room.

After they went their separate ways, the victim told police she sat on a lifeguard stand on 2nd Street and Ocean Drive for about five minutes by herself.

When she started walking back to her hotel, the victim told police that a man in a black shirt and gym shorts approached her from behind.

She told authorities the man tried making small talk with her, but his English was not very good and she doesn't speak Spanish.

In the police report, the failed chat turned into aggression as the assailant pushed the woman to the ground and mounted her. She told police he ripped off the top of her dress and forcefully kissed her.

The woman claimed she shoved sand in the attackers face and mouth. She said the encounter lasted around two minutes before she distracted the attacker by going to the water to look for shells.

Police said she tried to distance herself from the man so she could run away, but couldn't as the man threw her on the ground again.

During the second assault the woman said the man ripped her underwear off and pulled down his pants, exposing his privates.

At the same time, the victim's boyfriend called her cellphone. The police report states he called several times between 2:46 to 2:55 a.m. She said the attacker tried to grab her phone as it vibrated and she used that as an opportunity to get away.

When she arrived back at the hotel, the front desk called 911 for her.

Miami Beach ATV officers checked the area, but did not find the culprit.

The victim told police she was not sure she could identify the man if she saw him again.
