POMPANO BEACH (CBSMiami) – On November 9th, police said a man stole hundreds of dollars from a Pompano Beach grocery store.

Cashier Margarette Telsaint said a customer approached her register at about 8 a.m. at the Publix on 411 S Cypress Road.

Telsaint said the man, who appeared to be in his 40s, placed a newspaper down near the back of the checkout area. He apparently rummaged through some more newspapers at the grocery bagging area, before adding it to his purchase.

Telsaint said as she was ringing up the items the man inched closer and closer to the register.

The man gave Telsaint the money for his purchase, but she said when she opened the cash drawer he told her, "I'm sorry I have to do this."

The robber then reportedly reached into the drawer, grabbed the money and fled out the front door.

Anyone with additional information is asked report information anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Broward County at (954) 493-TIPS (8477).
