Hialeah Police: Officers fatally shoot suspect after stabbing of 3 relatives
HIALEAH - A Hialeah man accused of fatally stabbing a relative and injuring two others was shot and killed by police early Wednesday morning.
According to police, officers were sent to a home at W 42nd Place and W 5th Court just before 4:30 a.m. to check on a report of a domestic disturbance.
When officers arrived, they were met by a woman, who had been stabbed, outside of the home. Inside they found two others with stab wounds and an armed man.
Police said the man, in his late 20s, stabbed his teen sister, mother, and grandmother.
"As officers were rendering aid to the victims, there was a confrontation between officers and the armed suspect, where officers were forced to discharge their weapons," said Hialeah police Lieutenant Eddie Rodriguez in a statement.
The police association that represents one of the officers who fired his weapon said that the man, armed with a knife, went after the officers and they were forced to fire.
Video shows officers shooting at the man inside the house, and at least a dozen shots can be heard.
One of those he stabbed also died. The other two were taken to the Ryder Trauma Center.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the officer-involved shooting, as per the Hialeah police department's protocol.
