Police Standoff Ends After Machete Wielding Bank Robbery Suspect Tosses Cash Out Window Before Surrendering
MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) – An alleged bank robbery suspect is now in police custody after a standoff in the parking lot of a Miami Gardens church.
The suspect was pursued by Broward Sheriff's Office deputies into the church parking lot at 3490 NW 191st Street shortly before noon. According to BSO, their Burglary Apprehension Team was asked to track a vehicle suspected of being involved in a bank robbery in Delray Beach.
According to the Delray Beach Police Department, the man robbed at TD Bank while wielding a machete. He got away with an unknown amount of money.
When Delray Beach police lost sight of him on I-95, BSO burglary detectives and its aviation unit spotted the black pickup truck and pursued it into Miami Gardens where the driver stopped in the parking lot of the St. Monica Catholic Church.
Once he got there, however, he refused to get out of the truck.
In video from Chopper 4, BSO deputies had him surrounded by their vehicles with their guns drawn.
At one point, it appeared the suspect even threw cash out of the window of the truck.
The standoff, which lasted about 20 minutes, ended peacefully when he opened his door and surrendered.
