KEY LARGO (CBSMiami) – A 19-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly breaking into a Key Largo business to steal a brand new all-terrain vehicle.
The owner of Riva Yamaha came to work on December 15th and told police he noticed one of his new ATVs had been moved. According to the owner, it appeared that someone had tried to "hot-wire" the vehicle. When he checked his surveillance camera, he saw the crime taking place and footage captured a red colored Ford Ranger pickup truck with oversized tires.
Monroe County Sheriff's deputies received information a truck matching that description was at a construction site at the 88 mile marker of the highway.
Investigators went to the location and questioned the owner of the truck, Christian Mandri of Miami.
Mandri confessed to entering the business property, attempting to steal the ATV by installing a battery and adding fuel he brought, deputies said. He also told deputies he brought pieces of wood to use as a ramp to put the vehicle in the back of his truck.
When asked why he didn't end up taking it, he said "just could not do it."
Mandri was charged with burglary, grand theft and criminal mischief.
