Police: Man Went On Wild Ride & Crashed Bike Into Woman He Tried To Carjack

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A man who allegedly escaped the hospital managed to go on a wild ride early Monday morning.

According to Miami police, the man was taken to the Jackson Memorial Hospital Crisis Center after a call that he was trespassing at Bayfront Park on Biscayne Boulevard.

During the call, the man, later identified as 20-year-old Michael Burcks reportedly jumped into water and had to be apprehended by the Coast Guard.

Hours after being transported to the hospital, officials said another call came in of a man jumping in front of moving cars near NW 7 Avenue and NW 7 Street and had apparently escaped the hospital.

Police said Burcks attempted to carjack driver, as she travelled northbound on NW 7 Avenue, but she was able to speed away.

Moments later, Burcks reportedly found a man standing next to his bicycle and punched him to take his bicycle.

Officers said they followed the man, but he drove the stolen bike into traffic and hit a car head-on at NW 7 Avenue and 29 Street.

Ironically, the person driving the vehicle involved in the accident was the same victim whom the suspect had attempted to carjack just minutes earlier.

She had just U-turned her car, since several drivers who witnessed the attempted carjacking told her she should report it to the police who were a few blocks away.

After the crash, the suspect reportedly stood right up, took a fighting stance against the officers and began charging towards them.

One officer discharged his Taser yet police said the Burcks continued to fight with officers.

Burcks was eventually arrested and charged with one count of attempted carjacking, one count of strong arm robbery, one count of battery on a police officer and one count of resisting arrest with violence.
