DEERFIELD BEACH (CBSMiami) – A fire inside a trailer home in Deerfield Beach has claimed the lives of two people.
Around 2:40 a.m., Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue responded to the residential fire at 1810 Valencia Drive.
A man and woman were found deceased inside the burnt trailer once the flames were extinguished. Witnesses said the flames spread quickly.
"By the time I got out of my trailer, it was well-engulfed," said neighbor Robert Hagar. "Two trailers down from my house."
Investigators are trying to determine how the blaze started.
The victims were identified as retired property manager, 84-year-old Dorothy Stevens, who owned the home, and her roommate, 66-year-old Larry Edward Feingold.
"I helped her out, for a lot of things around their house," said Pierre Poirier, the VP of the homeowner's association. "It's a bad day. Sad, sad."
Neighbors said age hadn't yet caught up with Stevens.
"She was nice, she was still active, driving, everything," said Hagar. "Very sharp, ya know. No dementia or anything."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
