Police Investigating Multiple Car Burglaries In Hialeah

HIALEAH (CBSMiami) – Police are looking for a man who committed several car burglaries overnight in Hialeah.

Surveillance cameras caught a man walked up and down the street in the area of 16th Avenue and West 65th Street checking out cars. Specifically, he checked to see if their door were locked. If they weren't he went inside and took whatever he wanted, according to Hialeah police.

The man burglarized nearly a dozen vehicles, one image showed him going into a parked Buick. He can be seen pulling out an air conditioner filter and leaving the door open before moving on to a van parked in the same driveway.

"I don't know. That's so stupid I think," said resident Victor Ocana. "Actually it happened once before and someone tried to break into the house, so they've already been around. I don't know if it's the same group of people, but I know they've been around."

"This is not a neighborhood that is like that bad, it's really good you know, but things happen you know," said resident Randy Gonzalez.

Two of the cars hit belonged to Juan Galan's family.

"They stole the movies an electric charger and a compressor, I got pretty mad," said Galan. "I thought this was a peaceful neighborhood, so [it was] a little shocking."

No windows on any of the car doors were broken. Police said that they have dusted for fingerprints but they have no suspects as of yet.

In the meantime residents whose cars were spared this time around say they won't be taking any chances.

"I'm pretty OCD about that," said one resident. "Now I'll make sure not to leave anything of value in my car."

Miramar police are also looking for the man responsible for 11 car burglaries at the Residence Inn Marriot located at 14700 SW 29 Street. The man was spotted in a red, four door sedan, possibly a Hyundai or a Kia, with silver rims and has dreadlocks.

Police have not said if the burglaries are connected but police say the man could be responsible for other car burglaries in different areas.
