Police Find 4th Underground Marijuana Grow House

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade Police spent Monday night on the scene of a clandestine underground marijuana grow house.

Police found numerous marijuana plants beneath a house along with lights and equipment needed to grow the illegal plants.

The location at 12910 NW 6 Street in Miami, according to police, is the fourth grow house operation to be investigated within the past couple of weeks.

More than 100 plants were found and electrical wiring that police said could have caught fire.

Police added that two people, a man and a woman were arrested.

Officers said a possible grow house may not have been the only criminal activity they will be investigating at the location.

Police also found several roosters in cages and believe the location may have been part of a major cockfighting ring.

Monday night's find, police said, is not connected to recent grow houses found in other parts of Miami-Dade County.

Last Tuesday, investigators found a sophisticated operation at a home located at 12485 SW 220 Street, just a few homes away from where another marijuana grow lab was discovered.

Investigators said that elaborate set-up was completely concealed from view beneath the backyard.

All told, police seized 31 lbs. of pot worth about $108,000 from the Southwest Miami-Dade home.

The discovery last week came just one day after officials busted a clandestine lab containing more than 20 pot plants hidden beneath a concrete slab and an above-ground swimming pool.

Police said they believe those cases are connected.

Two people, a man and a woman, were taken into custody in the Southwest Miami-Dade find.

All told, police seized 31 lbs. of pot worth about $108,000 from the Southwest Miami-Dade home.

Officers said they responded to another underground pot lab in Hialeah later Tuesday night.
