MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Police say the toddler, who shot himself with his parents' gun, is recovering and his condition seems to be improving.

Three-year-old Darnel Mundy, after accidentally shooting himself in the head Tuesday, seems to be getting better as his brain swelling has gone down dramatically, police said.

The boy's mother, Dorphise Jean, said her son was looking for an iPad when he found his father's gun in a drawer and pulled the trigger.

Jean said she and the boy's father were sleeping when they heard a gunshot just before 6 a.m.

The toddler, who was awake and crying, was taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition Tuesday.

So far, no charges have been filed.
