Police: Clerk Injured While Trying To Stop Beer Bandit

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A clerk, trying to stop an alleged beer thief was injured in front of a southwest Miami-Dade 7-Eleven convenience store earlier this month.

It all happened on at around 3:00 a.m. on April 11th at the store located at 1850 SW 122 Avenue.

According to Miami-Dade Police,  the woman allegedly walked in and took two six packs of beer then walked out without paying.

The clerk, Modesto Legon,64, ran after the alleged beer thief and followed her to her car where he allegedly instructed her to go back to pay for the merchandise.

The woman allegedly did not listen and got into her white Honda Civic.

As she tried to leave, the clerk clung onto the inside of the car door.

While the clerk was holding on onto the door, the woman allegedly put the car in reverse, pushed the victim to the ground and took off.

Legon suffered a laceration to the back of his head. He was treated and released.

The incident was captured by surveillance cameras.

"It was really quick so if you see the video, you see that it was really fast," said Franchise owner Ana Escalante.

She said Legon was in pain for a few days but now he is okay.

Police are asking if anyone recognizes her to please call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-Tips.
