Police Check Out 'Suspicious' Item Near International Mall

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade police temporarily shut down a portion of NW 107th Avenue near the International Miami after a 'suspicious item' was found on a sidewalk.

According to police, a woman called police and indicated she had a bomb in a suitcase.

Arriving officers from Miami-Dade, Doral and Sweetwater found an abandoned suitcase on a sidewalk bordering NW 107th Avenue near NW 14th Street right next to the entrance to the mall, near BJ's Brewhouse.

Chopper4 over the scene found the wheeled suitcase sitting upright on the sidewalk, its handle raised.  A woman was reportedly taken into custody and questioned.  No word on if charged will be filed.

As a precaution police closed that section of NW 107th Avenue to traffic. Drivers were either diverted into the mall's parking lot or diverted down the street toward the Dolphin Mall.

Miami-Dade police sent in a bomb squad which detonated the suitcase.  No word on what was inside.
