Police Chase Ends In Crash In SW Dade

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A Miami-Dade police officer was involved in a crash involving a tow truck during an overnight chase in southwest Miami-Dade.
It all began around 3 a.m. when a Miami-Dade police officer noticed a tow truck towing a Ford 150, in the area of SW 92nd Avenue and 16th Street, and something didn't seem quite right. The there no security chains attached to the truck being towed and the tow trucks lights were off.
When the officer turned on his flashing lights, the driver of the tow truck took off. The officer gave chase and was soon joined by a second officer.
At one point, according to police, the driver of the tow truck stopped, lowered the lift arm, and put the truck in reverse at a high rate of speed, slammed into one of the police cruisers. The officer was not injured.
The tow truck driver again took off. It stopped at SW 88th Court and 36th Street and the two men inside bailed out.
Police quickly established a perimeter and were able to take them into custody. The driver was identified as 26-year-old Tariel Valdespino Rodriguez. His passenger, and owner of the tow truck, was 32-year-old Sergio Aguirre.
Police said a check of the Ford F 150 turns out that it had been stolen and the owner didn't even know it.
