Police: 2 Arrests Made In Case Of Teen Killed By Stray Bullet Near Miami International Airport

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Police have made two arrests in the death of a teenage girl who was killed by a stray bullet in the parking lot of a well-known restaurant near Miami International Airport.

Loidel Gomez-Rouco, 20 and Mario Pedro Conley-Hernandez, 22, have both been charged with accessory after the fact. Police are looking for a third person, the gunman, who they say fled the country days after the shooting.

Conley-Hernandez and Gomez-Rouco were charged after purposely failed to tell the police that the gunman had fled the country.

16-year-old Ana Alvarez-Hernandez was shot in the parking lot of the 94th Aero Squadron restaurant just before 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 7.

Miami-Dade police say about 50 people were hanging out in the parking lot when someone threw a beer bottle in the general direction of Conley-Hernandez and his three friends.

One of Conley-Hernandez's friends then grabbed a rifle out of the car and began shooting in the air, according to the arrest report.

Three to four people confronted the shooter and the argument turned physical. Conley-Hernandez reportedly retrieved the rifle from the car and fired a warning shot into the air to get the others to back offer.

When they started to run away, the shooter grabbed the gun from Conley-Hernandez and fired in their general direction, according to the arrest report.

Police say Hernandez was the only person hit by a bullet.

She later died at a hospital.

Hernandez and her family came to South Florida from Cuba in the last two years.

The parking lot behind the restaurant is known as a place to view planes taking off and landing at Miami International Airport. It's also a hangout spot on the weekends for young people.
