Pinecrest Gives Warning Period For Red Light Violations

PINECREST (CBSMiami) – Pinecrest has instituted a 30-day warning period for new red light cameras installed at four intersections.
Starting Monday, May 11th, drivers who run red lights will be sent a warning notice but will not be fined.
"The warning period gives drivers in the village time to adjust to the program. Our foremost goal is to increase safety by reducing violations and crashes, and we know the presence of the systems will serve as a deterrent for most drivers," said Village Manager Yocelyn Galiano Gomez.
Automated safety photo-enforcement systems have been installed at four intersections along Pinecrest Parkway: 128th Street, 124th Street, 112th Street and 104th Street.
A traffic study conducted in February 2014 found five intersections along Pinecrest Parkway averaged 25 violations during a 12-hour period, with one intersection experiencing 50 violations.
The program is officially active on June 10th. Red light runners after the date will receive a ticket in the mail.
The fine for running a red light at a photo-enforced intersection is $158.
