Juvenile found fatally shot near Miami Gardens elementary school
MIAMI - An investigation is underway after a juvenile was fatally shot near Golden Glades Elementary School in Miami Gardens.
Miami Gardens police said around 7:30 a.m. officers were sent to the 2900 block of NW 166th Street to check out a report of a male juvenile being shot.
When they arrived, they found the juvenile with a gunshot wound on the ramp of the pedestrian bridge that goes over the Palmetto Expressway. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue declared the man dead. "It's kind of scary really," said Esther Thomas who lives next door.
The school district said since the shooting occurred before the start of the day, the school was not on lockdown. It added that the investigation did not have an impact on the school day.
We checked with the district, they tell us no students from Golden Glades Elementary use the bridge to get to school. All students live south of the Palmetto.
We spoke to a parent who does not want to be identified. He said, "Everywhere got danger. It's not about how close it is. You can be walking in the street and something could happen. Things happen in life.
Miami Gardens police said this time they have no description of the shooter, nor do they know what led to it.
