POMPANO BEACH - A man was struck and killed by a Tri-Rail train Friday morning in Pompano Beach, authorities said.

Shortly before 5 a.m., Broward Sheriff's Office deputies and Pompano Beach Fire Rescue responded to a train versus pedestrian crash near Southwest 12th Avenue and Southwest Third Street, BSO said.

Crews found the pedestrian had been struck by the train, and he was pronounced deceased.

BSO crime scene and homicide units were notified to investigate.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.

Tri-Rail service was delayed with a bus bridge established between Cypress Creek and Pompano Beach stations because trains could not travel in the area.

Tr-Rail trains operate on CSX tracks that include freight trains and Amtrak.

Two other pedestrians have been struck and killed by Tr-Rail trains since December in Pompano Beach.

In June,  a man walking in railroad tracks was fatally struck by a Tri-Rail in the area of Northwest 13th Avenue and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Pompano Beach.
