Parking lot hit and run led to shooting in SW Miami-Dade

MIAMI - A parking lot fender bender in southwest Miami-Dade led to a shooting on Friday morning.

According to Miami-Dade police Detective Angel Rodriguez, two vehicles were parked at the Village at Dadeland condo complex at 7344 SW 82nd Street around 5:45 a.m. When one of the vehicles drove off, the driver accidentally hit the other vehicle.

When the owner of the vehicle that was hit was made aware of what happened, he walked downstairs to see the damage and noticed the driver who had hit it returning.

According to Rodriguez, the owner of the car that was hit then shot the other driver thinking he was going to hurt him.

"I'm just shocked, my dad was shot," told CBS News Miami the teenage daughter of 37-year-old Lazaro Hernandez, shot by his neighbor.

Rodriguez said before the shooting there was no dispute or altercation that would have led to a possible fight.

The man, who was hit in the leg, drove off and was found a short time later by police. He was taken to a hospital.

The man who fired the shot was arrested, Hernandez's children identified him as Cristian Hernandez, both men – shooter and the victim - have the same last name but are not related.

Police confirmed Christian Hernandez was released.

He said on a video that a few days ago Lazaro Hernandez picked up a piece of concrete and threatened to throw it at him.

On Friday, the shooter allegedly acted in self-defense.

Magnolia Hernandez now fears possible retaliation from her neighbor, " I have my kids here, I'm scared."

Lazaro Hernandez, now hospitalized, is in critical but stable condition. According to Miami Dade Police, once released he will be arrested.
