SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – The Florida Panthers just had the most successful regular season in team history and 44-year-old Jaromir Jagr played a huge role on the team both on and off the ice.
On Thursday, Panthers Executive Vice President and General Manager Dale Tallon announced that the team has agreed to terms with Jagr on a one-year contract, just as it did following the 2014-15 season.
"Jaromir is a Hall of Fame player and had an excellent season playing alongside Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau," Tallon said. "His track record speaks for itself, ranking third all-time in points and goals. He has been a great fit with our organization and we are excited to have him back for next season."
Jagr led the Panthers with 66 points last season (27g 39a- 66p) in 79 games. He recorded two assists during Florida's six playoff games.
Since being acquired at the 2015 Trade Deadline from the New Jersey Devils, Jagr has helped the Panthers young core continue to improve and adapt to the NHL, especially Barkov and Huberdeau.
"Jaromir has had a tremendous influence on our younger players and has been a key offensive contributor on our team," Panthers Head Coach Gerard Gallant said. "We are happy to have him back as we look to build off this year's playoff appearance."
Jagr was voted into the 2016 NHL All-Star Game, serving as captain to the Atlantic Division team.
He has also been named a finalist for the 2016 Bill Masterson Memorial Trophy which is awarded to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.
