Panthers Sign Goalie James Reimer To Five-Year Deal
The Florida Panthers have signed goaltender James Reimer to a five-year deal, reportedly worth $3.4 million per year.
Reimer, 28, recorded a 6-2-0 record with a 1.62 goals against average during the 2015-16 season with the San Jose Sharks. He also had a .938 save percentage and three shutouts in eight games. Reimer finished the season with a combined 17-14-7 record with a 2.31 goals against average.
The 6-foot-2, 217-pound native of Morweena, Manitoba has played in 215 NHL games for San Jose (2016) and Toronto (2010-16) recording a 91-78-23 record. Also, Reimer has played in eight career playoff games – owning a 2.82 goals against average and .921 save percentage.
Signing Reimer comes on the heels of veteran goalie Roberto Luongo having an All-Star season that saw him go 35-19-6 with a 2.35 goals-against-average and .922 save percentage.
Luongo is still under a contract that is set to keep him in the net through 2021, but the Panthers expressed that they were looking to bring in another goalie – which facilitated Reimer's signing.
