Panthers Send Tim Thomas To Dallas, Goc To Penguins
SUNRISE (CBSMiami) - Based on their history, goalie Tim Thomas and goalie Roberto Luongo seemed like an odd combination. Less than 24 hours later, the combination is no more.
The Florida Panthers traded Thomas to the Dallas Stars, according to The Sports Network's Bob McKenzie. According to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald, goalie Dan Ellis will be sent to Florida in exchange for Thomas.
With Thomas out of the picture, Ellis will likely become Luongo's backup. That will send Scott Clemmensen down to San Antonio.
It wasn't the only move the Panthers made before Wednesday's trade deadline.
The Panthers also shipped center Marcel Goc to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for the Pens' third round pick in 2015 and 2014 fifth round pick.
Goc had played in 62 games this season and had 11 goals and 12 assists. He was also in the final year of a three-year, $5.1 million contract and will be a free agent this summer.
