SUNRISE (CBSMiami) -- Ahead of Monday's NHL trade deadline, the Florida Panthers made three separate moves to help maintain the team's first place lead in the Atlantic Division.
On Saturday, the Panthers acquired RW Jiri Hudler from the Calgary Flames for a 2nd round pick in 2016 and a 4th round pick in 2018. Hudler has 10 goals and 25 assists this season, playing in the final year of his contract.
They then dealt next year's 3rd round pick to the Edmonton Oilers for RW Teddy Purcell and his 11 goals and 21 assists. He's also in the final year of his contract.
That was followed by a trade to get defenseman Jakub Kindl from the Detroit Red Wings for a 6th round pick in 2016. The Red Wings must also retain a chunk of Kindl's contract.
The moves come as the Panthers hold onto the fifth best record in the NHL at 35-18 with 77 points.
