Panthers Assign Five Players To San Antonio

SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – The Florida Panthers have announced that five players have been assigned to the teams AHL affiliate in San Antonio.

On Sunday the Panthers placed the following six players on waivers: forwards Bobby Butler, Joey Crabb, Ryan Martindale and Garrett Wilson; defenseman Greg Zanon; goaltender Dan Ellis.

Upon clearing waivers, the Panthers assigned Butler, Crabb, Martindale, Wilson and Zanon to the AHL's San Antonio Rampage.

Ellis will remain with the Panthers and continue competing for the role of backup goaltender behind starter Roberto Luongo, but it's expected that free-agent signing Al Montoya will end up filling the spot behind Luongo.

Florida's training camp roster now stands at 32 players.

San Antonio's training camp opens on Monday while the Panthers continue working their way through the team's preseason schedule.  Florida (0-1-2) plays its fourth of six exhibition games Monday night in Texas against the host Dallas Stars before wrapping up the preseason slate with a home-and-home against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Panthers open the 2014-15 season on October 9th with a road game against Tampa Bay before playing their home opener on October 11th against the New Jersey Devils.
