MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A shooting on a Miami bridge landed one man in the hospital and another person in custody.

Miami Police said the shooting happened on the NW 12th Avenue bridge near NW 7th Street close to Marlins Park.

They believe the shooting may have come about during a road rage incident.

"What we have here is a possible road rage incident, according to witnesses and relatives. One driver approached the other vehicle at which time shots were fired," said Miami Police Officer C. Bess.

Officers say a man was shot. He is in critical condition, according to police.

Video from Chopper4 says it all.

Two vehicles were seen askew on the asphalt as a puddle of blood was seen nearby. A gun was seen on the dashboard of one of the cars.

The man who was shot apparently got out of a white Chevy pickup and was arguing with the other driver who was in a gray Chevy SUV. It all ended when the elderly man was shot through the window of the SUV.

"Did he believe that the driver of the white car was going to use deadly force against him? And if so, he had the right to use deadly force against that person to defend himself," said attorney David Weinstein.

The injured man was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center.

Witness Juan Hernandez said he heard three shots. That's when he saw a man in the street and then the police came.

"It is crazy...should not have guns, should not have guns. You know there are crazy people. Just let it be," said Tricia Cantillo.

The shooting caused a shutdown of the NW 12th Avenue bridge - a key traffic link between Little Havana, Jackson Memorial Hospital, and the Metropolitan Justice Building.

"We have one person detained and is being questioned as we speak," said Officer C. Bess.

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
