PINELLAS PARK (CBSMiami/AP) — A busy night that included gunfire had Tampa-area officers very busy.
One man died and a second was hospitalized after separate shootouts with Tampa Bay-area authorities.
In Pinellas Park, Sgt. Michael Lynch said in an email early Sunday that two police officers dispatched Saturday night to a domestic dispute found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
Lynch says the officers then were confronted by another man who shot at them. Both officers returned fire, striking the man, who Lynch says died at a hospital.
Lynch says the wounded man found earlier was pronounced dead at a hospital.
In Riverview, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office spokesman Larry McKinnon said an email that a man "pulled out a semi-automatic handgun and fired multiple times" at two deputies responding to a domestic dispute early Sunday.
McKinnon says the deputies returned fire, injuring the man.
None of the officers were injured.
