PALM BAY (AP) — Authorities have identified a suspect killed in an officer-involved shooting in central Florida.

Palm Bay Police say 50-year-old Bradford Leonard met officers with gunfire when they responded to a 911 call early Sunday from a home on the street where Leonard lived.

Police spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez says the officers returned fire, and Leonard died at the scene. No officers were injured in the shooting.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.

Martinez says the 28-year-old officer who shot Leonard is a two-year veteran of the department and has a military background. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the FDLE investigation.
