WYNWOOD (CBSMiami) – Police have arrested one person in connection to a violent armed robbery that sent an exchange student to the hospital.

Devin Lewis, 25, was taken into custody on one count of attempted felony murder and one count of armed robbery.

According to Miami police, Lewis and his accomplice approached 28-year-old Frank Hammar on June 7th at around 11:30 p.m. near NW 2nd Ave. and 26th St.

Surveillance video captured as Hammar put his phone on the ground and then tried to back away from the robbers.

But police said Lewis and his accomplice demanded Hammar give up his wallet, which Hammar refused to hand over.

According to the arrest report, Lewis pulled out a black handgun and pointed it at the Swedish student.

Lewis reportedly told Hammer, "Put everything on the floor, I'm not kidding."

Off screen, shots were fired and Hammar was hit twice.

Hammar was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in critical but stable condition. He was released 10 days later.

Lewis was picked up by a Miami-Dade Police Department robbery unit Thursday. His accomplice remains at large.

If you have any information that can help police, please contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
