Officer's Quick Action Saves Injured Woman's Life
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- It was a moment that nearly tore the Wehby family apart. Jenon Wehby could have died last Saturday night but a few off duty Fort Lauderdale police officers swooped in just in time.
"I just want to say thank you very much," said Jenon's husband Jeremy. "I really appreciate it."

Jeremy Wehby attended afternoon roll call. He credits Officer Nick Rollins for saving Jenon's life. She fell, cutting her wrist on glass, while leaving a birthday party at Vibe Nightclub in Fort Lauderdale last Saturday. The cut was deep. "We knew with an arterial bleed you could bleed out within a few minutes," said officer Rollins. "We knew it was serious."
"He was like a ninja," said Jeremy. "He was all over the place!" Jeremy said Officer Rollins and two other officers who were working off duty, jumped into action. "Next thing you know," Jeremy recalled, "Officer Rollins disappears and like Superman he comes back with gloves and a tourniquet and thing and she was bleeding a lot."
Rollins applied a tourniquet, stopping the bleeding. ER doctors said if had he not done that, Jenon would have likely bled out leaving Jeremy without a wife and four children with no mother. "If he hadn't done what he did my wife might not be here today," said Jeremy. "I'm in his debt and very grateful."
"I've never been in this position before," Rollins laughed, standing in front of his co-workers with a row of cameras and reporters in front of him. He is not used to the spotlight. He said, as you might expect, it's all in a day's work and he did not do it alone. But he said it certainly was nice to get a thank you.
"These guys are doing this stuff every day and for Jeremy to reach out and feel that positive feedback and to know….that's something we did had a direct result of saving someone's life, that's a huge feeling," he said.
Jeremy tells us his wife will be recuperating for the next few weeks, trying to get the use of her hand back.
