MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A crash early Sunday morning that left one person dead and five others in the hospital could have potentially ended even worse thanks to the quick response from Miami-Dade Police.

Investigators said the crash happened at 4:45 a.m. near S.W. 144th Street and S.W. 157th Avenue between a Toyota Corolla going southbound and a Yukon SUV, attempting a left turn to go west.

The collision caused the Yukon to roll on its side and both vehicles caught fire.

When officers arrived, the vehicles were engulfed in flames. They were able to pull out one person who was trapped inside the burning Yukon.

Unfortunately, one other inside did not survive.

All other victims were transported to Kendall Regional Hospital Trauma.
