Off-duty Broward Sheriff's deputy killed in Fourth of July motorcycle crash in Sunrise

FORT LAUDERDALE — An off-duty deputy with the Broward Sheriff's Office died in a motorcycle crash in Sunrise on Independence Day.

The International Union of Police Associations announced on Instagram that Anthony Zahorovsky, 27, was killed in the accident.

"Anthony's loss is deeply felt by all of us," the IUPA shared. "As a colleague, friend, and family member, he touched many lives."

The crash happened right before 12:20 p.m. in the area of North Pine Road at Northwest 44th Street. BSO confirmed to CBS News Miami that Zahorosvky was involved in the crash.

"Our hearts are with his family during this devastating moment. It is our prayer his family finds comfort in the loving memories of Anthony and the difference he made in his young life," the agency stated. "We mourn his loss but remember his life."

Andres Muneton, Zahorosvky's cousin, spoke with CBS News Miami at the scene of the crash and said he's still contemplating the devastation he and the family are feeling now.

"He was an amazing guy and he loved what he was doing," he said. "... he was amazing as a father."

CBS News Miami has reached out to Sunrise Police for more information. The circumstances of the accident are under investigation.
