CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami/AP) — The University of Miami Women's Basketball Team continued its torrid start to the season on Tuesday.
Nigia Greene scored 14 points and Laura Cornelius added 13 to lead four players in double figures, and No. 14 Miami beat Loyola of Chicago 81-43.
Senior guard Adrienne Motley, who entered the game with 1,497 points in her Miami career, scored 12 to become the ninth player in program history to reach 1,500. Erykah Davenport finished with 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Hurricanes (8-1) shot 33 of 71 and hit 10 of 31 from beyond the arc, taking charge with a dominant third quarter. Miami also ruled the glass 48-31 and registered seven blocks.
The Ramblers (0-8), picked to finish last in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll, stayed close for one half but were trounced 29-8 in the third. Katie Salmon led Loyola with 12 points, while freshman guard Kaitlyn Williams, the team's leading scorer, finished with only six and zero assists.
The Hurricanes gained an early lead, closing the opening period with an 11-2 run for a 20-11 edge.
The Ramblers stayed within striking distance in the second and trailed 32-22 at the break. But after Salmon's jumper cut the Miami lead to 32-24 to start the third, the Hurricanes allowed only three more baskets in the period as they pulled away.
Keyona Hayes hit a short jumper and Cornelius followed with another to start the decisive third-period surge.
