NE Miami-Dade Drive-By Shooting Leaves Man Dead, Woman Hospitalized: 'Everything Is Going Crazy Nowadays'
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A man has been killed Monday afternoon following a drive-by shooting in northeast Miami-Dade.
"We did hear shots earlier in the afternoon, not making much of it because it's not the first time that we've heard gunshots but a couple minutes later we did hear the sirens," said unincorporated Miami Dade resident Zvi Silver, referring to the shooting that took place at the intersection of 183 Street and NE 6 Avenue.
And he's not the only one reacting.
"I heard the helicopter and I kept wondering, I looked out my window because I stayed on the street and I kept seeing the car so I'm thinking it's an accident and I said, 'Oh God, it's a bad accident 6th Avenue is blocked,'" added resident Christopher Tobe.
But the scene was no accident. Instead, it was shooting that took place in broad daylight.
Chopper4 flew over the scene on NE 6 Avenue, near 183 Street and I-95. A CBS4 crew on the ground counted as many as 20 bullet casings.
"Everything is going crazy nowadays, it's just these killings and they shootings each other and it's just happening everywhere now," added Tobe.
Officials are calling it a drive-by as a red BMW was riddled with bullets.
The male victim was pronounced dead on the scene. A woman was rushed to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand.
The incident also caused a portion of 183 Street between 6 Avenue and NE 8 Avenue to be shut down for hours. As police investigate, those who live in the area say shootings like this are becoming way too common.
"It doesn't surprise me because we had one happened right over there the neighborhood not too long ago a house shut up," said Tobe.
Sentiments echoed by Silver, who said, "It does shock me but not a shock as most people would be."
The shooter, who was reportedly in a white sedan, has not been caught.
