Wake, Pouncey Welcome the Suh Experience at Miami Dolphins OTAs
DAVIE -- It's not often four-time Pro Bowl defensive end Cameron Wake is just "trying to keep up" during practice.
Welcome to the first day of pads having Ndamukong Suh as a teammate.
The Miami Dolphins kicked off OTAs on Tuesday and although Suh often skipped the Lions' voluntary offseason program in past years, he showed up today and made his presence felt among his new teammates up front.
"You can definitely see the talent level," Wake said of the prize of the Dolphins' offseason. "The guy is an amazing football player. I'm just going out there trying to keep up."
Center Mike Pouncey offered the perspective of the enemy lining up across from the ferocious defensive tackle who just became the highest paid defensive player in NFL history. Already Suh's become a menace in Ryan Tannehill's backfield.
"I mean that's what he does, right?" Pouncey asked. "That's why we gave him all that money.
"He's coming off that ball full speed every play. He's a guy that really uses the snap count to his advantage."
As for Suh he knows he's going to make mental errors as he familiarizes himself with the Dolphins' scheme and terminology, it's just a matter of sustaining his play speed when he does.
"I'm just going out there and playing as hard and as fast as I can," Suh said as the South Florida heat dripped off his face. "If I'm going to make mistakes, I want to do it full speed, and especially be in the backfield making mistakes if I'm gonna make a mistake. That's what I was brought here for."
Cameron Wake, annually among the league's most dangerous pass rushers, probably is no longer the best player on his own defensive line.
Opposing defensive coordinators next season may want to invest in a steady supply of Advil.
