MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — The art of the Cuban exile community will be featured at a museum set to open in Miami this weekend.

The American Museum of the Cuban Diaspora, at 1200 Coral Way, will host an opening celebration Saturday evening. The museum will then be open weekdays, except Wednesday.

Formerly called the Cuban Museum the institute's stated mission is to document and showcase the history, culture and contributions of the Cuban Diaspora through the arts and humanities.

The museum's first major exhibition is Luis Cruz Azaceta: Dictators, Terrorism, War and Exiles.

The museum's director, Ileana Fuentes says the new facility will be a center from which to share the exile community's rich cultural heritage, world-class art and painful, yet uplifting, story.
