Murdered Woman's Family Wants New Missing Persons Procedures
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The father of a South Florida woman who was missing for a week before her body was found in the trunk of her car is now working to change how police track missing adults.
Since the death of his daughter Tanya, Ramon Gonzalez said he's learned more about the red tape that law enforcement deals with before they can even start.
Under current policy, police wait 48 hours to investigate after a person has been reported missing. Gonzalez said he's met with leaders from Miami and Miami-Dade police to push for changes that would allow investigators to begin looking for missing adults sooner.
"By me pursuing, I guess to try to better the missing person police, it's keeping her alive with me," said Gonzalez. "I feel that she's pushing me to do this."
Police suspect Tanya Gonzalez's ex-boyfriend, Roy Blanco, in her murder. Blanco killed in himself in the course of being arrested in the Keys.
