Woman dead, 2 others hospitalized following shooting in Lauderhill

LAUDERHILL - A real Halloween Horror unfolds in Lauderhill.

"It's very heartbreaking to see someone die on Halloween," said Branden Wilson, who lives in the neighborhood.

The corner of NW 56th Avenue and NW 28th Street roped off by crime scene tape after bullets bombarded the Renaissance Pointe neighborhood Tuesday afternoon.

"It sounds like grenades and rapid-fire," said one resident.

The shooting happened shortly before 4:30 p.m.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found three people shot, a woman, a man and a girl.

The woman died on the scene. The man and juvenile were taken to Broward Health Medical Center and are expected to survive.

"This is crazy, you can't even walk out the door no more without hearing gunshots," said a resident.

One neighbor tells CBS News Miami he was in his apartment when he heard multiple shots.

"Around 15-20 and they were loud, extremely loud. It sounded like handguns and machine guns," said Wilson.

The shooting comes just a day after Lauderhill leaders and community advocates gathered at city hall, calling for an end to gun violence in this neighborhood.

"For us to be here just 24 hours ago, speaking about the importance of having common sense gun laws and then the very next day to hear about this senseless taking of life with a gun, it's tragic," said Wilson.

The shooting, happened just as children were getting home from school, preparing to go trick-or-treating.

"Children are out and about, just imagine if one of those gunshots had hit one of those children," said Commissioner Melissa Dunn.

Now, Halloween will never be the same for one Lauderhill family, and the community is left rattled by another deadly act of gun violence.

Police have not released any information on a suspect or a motive.

They're asking anyone with any information to come forward.

Anyone with information regarding this shooting is asked to contact Lauderhill police at (954) 497-4700.
