Miami fire that destroyed five cars was likely arson

MIAMI - Five cars were destroyed in a raging fire early Wednesday morning the fire investigators have deemed "suspicious."

It happened outside an apartment building off NW 76 Street just west of North Miami Avenue in Miami. Miami Fire Rescue said they received a call about the fire around 4:40 a.m.

Two of the cars that burned belonged to Roy Puckett's mother.

"My dog was barking and I heard a knocking on the door and stuff and I came outside and both of my mom's cars were on fire. I didn't know what to do so I just called 911," he said.

He said he didn't see anyone in the area.

"It's probably not just an accident, I would think," he added.

Claudette Gainletel said her son's car was among those burned.

"I went outside, I saw the cars burned but I can't explain it," she said.

Gainletel said whoever did this could have damaged more than just property.

"I am shocked because the house could've caught fire, I could've been burned. I'm shocked but I can't explain it anymore," she said.

Miami Fire Rescue said the preliminary determination is that the fire was intentionally set. No injuries were reported.
