Mother, Daughter Found Floating In Coral Springs Pool

CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) -- Police are investigating what caused a mother and child to drown in a Coral Springs community pool.

"They did go down to the pool this afternoon," said Coral Springs Police Department Sgt. Carla Kmiotek. "At this time, it's possible they were under the water over an hour."

Two men discovered the 31-year-old woman and her 5-year-old daughter floating in the water at 1225 Riverside Drive, around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, and began administering CPR until rescue crews arrived.

The victims were taken to Broward Health Coral Springs where they were pronounced dead.

Investigators spoke to residents trying to piece together what exactly happened.

Officials said while the child was wearing a bathing suit, her mother was not. Though, they do believe it was their intention to go swimming.

Police have not released the victims' names.
