MIRAMAR (CBSMiami) – The woman accused of killing her two small children in Miramar on Wednesday remains in the psych ward of the North Broward jail.

Sophia Hines didn't appear at her bond court hearing on Friday.

Her public defender, Betsy Benson, said Hines was in no shape to face a judge because she is suffering from postpartum depression – a mental disorder characterized by severe sadness and anxiety.

"She's catatonic. I've never seen anything like it," said Benson outside of court

According to Benson, Hines' brother in New York said Hines was diagnosed after her baby boy was born and she was put on medication.

Hines was arrested at her cousin's Miramar home after police found her 7-month-old baby boy and her 3-year-old daughter deceased on a bed.

Hines told police she suffocated the children taking a sheet and holding it over their mouths until they stopped breathing.

Hines left her home in Philadelphia a week ago and her husband said he was unaware she travelled to Florida.

Reached after the tragedy, Anthony Singleton said he was unaware his wife was under any stress.

The judge ordered Hines held without bond.

Benson said she will get experts to examine Hines and see if she can be transferred to a hospital until she is well enough to help with her defense.
