Mortgage Fraud Lands Former NFL Player In Prison

BOCA RATON (CBSMiami) – Former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Jeffrey Charles Leroy Taylor was sentenced to three years in prison for his role in a South Florida-based $7 million mortgage fraud scheme, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
The Sun Sentinel reported that 40-year-old Taylor pleaded guilty to mail fraud and conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Taylor and his team of nine others operated out in Deerfield Beach and Boca Raton between September 2008 and August 2009.
The indictment states Taylor and company targeted distressed homeowners nationwide – with more than 2,000 homeowners were defrauded in the scheme, authorities said.
Homeowners were reportedly told that they had been approved by an "underwriter" and that their team of "expert attorneys" would finalize the loan modifications.
Taylor, of Fort Lauderdale, was also ordered to pay $350,470 in restitution and will be on supervised release for two years following his sentence, according to the Sun Sentinel.
