MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The Dolphins' Kenny Stills and Michael Thomas taught Lakeside Elementary kids how to be 'Dol-fit' this week.

"We teach these kids that education is important, being physically fit is important and the choices you make in life are important, that makes you 'Dol-Fit,'" explained former linebacker Twan Russell.

Players aren't just coaching the kids, they're showing them how to get out there and be active. They urge kids to follow a plan called 'Play 60.'

"Kids who exercise 60 minutes a day are smarter than kids who don't because you get the blood flowing. You circulate blood through your body, your brain works better, so it all connects," said Russell.

That's a message that catches on pretty quickly.

Fifth grader Anna Sofia Suarez has no problem making that part of her daily routine.  "I think it's really fun, I like playing outside doing activities," said Suarez.

Dolphins Safety Michael Thomas said, as a kid, his mom had to force him to come in from playing. Obviously, all that activity paid off.

"Even if it's just 60 minutes a day but just getting out there," Thomas said, "That physical activity that's what keeps you heathy and keeps kids bright and active."

And we learned you can get some good exercise too, piling on to your favorite Dolphins player. Students rushed Wide Receiver Kenny Stills, everyone trying to get a high five.

"Everybody was excited to meet a Dolphins player," said 11-year-old Luca Candelero. "A once in a life time experience," said student Luca Candelero.
