MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Hope begins with a meal.

That is often said at the Miami Rescue Mission and that is what they're hoping for on Thanksgiving, bringing hope to people that have none as they celebrate this holiday with the less fortunate in our community.

"I am very very happy day place like this exists," said Troy Everett, a client of the Miami Rescue Mission.

Every day of the year the Miami Rescue Mission serves hot meals to those in need but today they served a great Thanksgiving banquet two more than 3,000 people in three shelters in Hollywood, Pompano and Miami.

"I am thankful for being here today and being able to serve and give back," said Everett.

Calvin McFadden is the main man in the kitchen and says they have been prepping for days.

McFadden, along with 24 others, helped prepare 160 pounds of stuffing, cooked 300 turkeys, 150 pounds of cranberry and 120 pounds of instant mashed potato were prepared and made for this special day.

And happy to get to work more than 250 volunteers arrived at Bright and early ready to serve and give back.

"It's super gratifying we will all be going home and having Thanksgiving with our family's so to be here and be able to connect with these people it is very cool," said Ricardo Bueso, a volunteer.

Aside from receiving a hot meal more than a dozen barbers were on hand to give the men who wanted a haircut and a shave.

A bag of clothes was also given to each family in need.
