MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Miami Edison Middle School and Miami Edison Senior High were temporarily placed on a precautionary lockdown Wednesday morning as police searched for an armed subject.
Miami police said around 7:30 a.m. one of their officers saw what looked like an attempted carjacking early Wednesday morning in the area of Miami Avenue and NE 62nd Street after an officer witnessed what looked like a carjacking attempt. When the officer stopped to check it out, the subject took off.
"The male victim advised that a subject, that was armed with a firearm, demanded his vehicle and then fled the scene," said Miami police officer Kiara Delva.
Arriving officers established a perimeter and a SWAT team was called in.
As the perimeter shifted the lockdown on Miami Edison middle and high was lifted and one was imposed on Toussaint Louverture Elementary School. As police searched the area, that lockdown was also lifted.
The search was suspended after it came up empty.
