MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Police have made an arrest in the murder of a Miami Northwestern Senior High School student.
According to police, Everton Demetrius Ramsay was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count of Second Degree Murder and one count of carrying a Concealed Firearm, for his involvement in the death of 17-year-old Maurice Harris Jr.
Harris was shot multiple times just after 6:30 pm on September 7, 2015, in front of 5410 Northwest 13th Avenue.
"I am proud of the work of the Miami Police Department and the community in bringing us to the first steps of justice in this tragic situation," said Chief Rodolfo Llanes in a released statement.
According to the arrest affidavit, a witness was able to identify Ramsay from a photo lineup.
That witness told police he saw Harris walking along NW 54th Street the night of the murder being followed by Ramsay, according to the affidavit. The witness heard Ramsey ask Harris if they had previously been in jail together and then saw him reach into his waistband and pull out what he believed to be a gun, states the report.
Once the witness identified Ramsay in the photo lineup, detectives from the City of Miami and Miami-Dade Police, who are part of a homicide street violence task force, conducted surveillance outside of Ramsay's home.
Around 4:40pm, Ramsay came out of the home with another person and both got into a car parked outside his home.
Officer's approached the men and gave verbal commands to place their hands in the air.
Ramsay, who was in the passenger seat, placed his hands "underneath the driver's seat so as to conceal an object," according to the report.
Officers took him into custody and found a .38 Special, six shot revolver underneath the front seat, stated the report.
Ramsay has denied any involvement in the shooting.
Several nights after the murder of Maurice Harris Jr., Randall Robinson III was gunned down at NW 3rd Avenue and 53rd Street on Sept. 10th. He was also a student Miami Northwestern Senior High.
On Sept. 11th, a 21-year-old man was shot and killed at 1601 NW 40th St.
CBS4 spoke to Miami Police about all three shootings. Officials said they were investigating whether all three were connected.
