Miami man, 9-year-old boy die after boat crashes into Florida Keys seawall

Father, son die in watercraft crash in the Keys

KEY WEST — A Miami man and a nine-year-old boy died after their boat crashed into a seawall in the Florida Keys on Tuesday evening.

Just before 7 p.m., Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers were called out to a single-vessel boating accident in Marathon.

Preliminary information revealed that a 2018 Yamaha personnel watercraft carrying the 47-year-old man and young boy struck a seawall and died from their injuries, FWC told CBS News Miami.

Family and neighbors told us Jose and Daniel Dominguez were the victims in this crash. The family had just moved to Marathon from Miami within the last year.

Neighbors said the crash was so shocking it drew a crowd and many people jumped into the water to try and save the pair.

"I heard a big noise and when I came out, I saw my friends jump in the water," said resident David Franco.

Those efforts would not be successful. Now a family is left broken.

"Great family. Never any issues, but just tragic. We're very sad for the whole family," said property manager Ed Kiefer.

Funeral arrangements are set for Saturday at Florida Funeral Home and Crematory.
