MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a police-involved shooting in West Perrine Friday night.
The shooting happened at around 6:40 p.m. at 10101 W. Indigo Street and started when police pulled over a car they said was driving erratically.
When the car stopped, Miami-Dade police said the passenger jumped out and ran off.
The driver, according to police, got out of the car with a gun.
"One of the officers engaged in a foot pursuit with the passenger of the vehicle at some point there," explained Miami-Dade police Sgt. Carlos Rosario. "After, the driver of the vehicle produced a firearm and the officer fired at the subject."
It's still very early on in this investigation, so police could not say if one or both officers fired at the driver, but he was killed.
Family on the scene told CBS4's Tiani Jones the driver is Jamar Rollins.
They said he was a father in his early 20s who loved dirt bikes and stayed out of trouble.
The story they're hearing from witnesses is very different from police.
"My cousin jumped out like this, with his hands up. Soon as he jumped out with his hands up, know what they do? Let eight rounds off," said Monique Douglas, Rollins cousin.
Police are still looking for one other person.
The FDLE is now handling this investigation, as is protocol with all officer-involved shootings.
The state attorney is also on the scene.
The officers, who both have nine years of service, will be put on administrative leave during this investigation.
