MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez has ordered an immediate review of the Transit Department to determine why a critical warning system on hundreds of buses was either broken or disabled.

The mayor's order was prompted by a CBS4 News report by  that found 92 percent of the seat alarms on buses were not working.

The alarms are designed to warn drivers that their parking brake is not on before they get off the bus.

A disabled alarm was found on the bus of 36-year-old Laquita Alvin, who was killed on December 5th when she was run over by her bus.

The mayor wants to determine if the broken alarms were due to acts of vandalism, possibly by the drivers themselves.
